When Doing It Wrong Is Exactly Right: Building a Failed Bathroom Set for Easy Bathrooms

At WOWVI Spaces, our work is usually about precision, performance and getting every detail right.

So when we were asked to design and build a bathroom set that was meant to fail, we had to stop, reset and forget almost everything we know.

For Easy Bathrooms’ latest TV ad, Mirror Life, the story is built around contrast.

One beautifully finished bathroom filmed inside the Easy Bathrooms Wakefield showroom. One very different outcome, where a couple decides to take on their bathroom renovation entirely by themselves.

That second space is the one we built.

The “Mirror Life” Concept: Two Bathrooms, Two Outcomes

Despite the name, Mirror Life this TV Ad Commercial is not about literal mirrors. It represents parallel choices and contrasting results.

On one side is a professionally designed bathroom, filmed in an Easy Bathrooms showroom. Clean layouts, considered finishes and products working exactly as they should.

On the other is a bathroom created without professional input. Enthusiasm over experience. Confidence over planning.

Our role as a commercial interior design team was to create a space that instantly felt wrong.

Not exaggerated, but familiar. A bathroom that makes you slightly uncomfortable because you recognise the mistakes.

Designing a Bathroom That Breaks All the Rules

Normally, bathroom design is about flow, alignment and proportion.

For this set, we deliberately did the opposite.

The layout felt awkward. Fixtures sat where they technically could, but absolutely should not. Finishes clashed just enough to feel unplanned. Spacing felt tight and impractical.

The challenge was realism, with a tile falling off during the advert. It had to look like a genuine DIY attempt, not a film prop.

This is where experience matters. Knowing how to build something correctly gives you the understanding to break those rules convincingly.

Built to Look Wrong, But Designed for Camera

Although the bathroom was designed to fail, it still had to function as a professional film set.

Camera angles, lighting and movement all had to be considered. The space needed to feel cramped and uncomfortable on screen while still allowing room for crew and equipment.

This required close collaboration between WOWVI Spaces and WOWVI Video from the very start.

By working together on layout, sightlines and scale, we ensured the contrast between the showroom bathroom and the DIY version was immediate and visually clear.

Ironically, making something look wrong takes a great deal of planning.

A Different Kind of Project

This project highlights a different application of room set design and builds.

At WOWVI Spaces, we take great pride in the perfection of our spaces from a brand perception and functionality.

For Mirror Life, we used that same thinking to create discomfort instead of delight.

The result is a space that quietly reinforces Easy Bathrooms’ message without needing explanation.

The difference between professional expertise and going it alone is instantly understood.

Spaces That Tell Stories

Great interiors do more than look good. They communicate something.

By placing two bathrooms side by side, Mirror Life becomes a visual story about choice.

One outcome shaped by professional design and installation. One shaped by trial and error.

Sometimes, the most powerful way to show the value of doing things properly is to show what happens when you do not.
