Transforming Wakefield BID’s Wood Street base into a collaborative, community-focused workspace
Wakefield BID are the champions of Wakefield city centre, supporting local businesses, driving growth and keeping the city buzzing with life.
When it was time for them to move into their new Wood Street office, the brief was clear: create a space that doesn’t just look good, but brings people together, sparks ideas and feels like the beating heart of the city.
So that’s exactly what we did. A full commercial fit‑out and office refit, and they now have a space that says: “Come in. Get comfy. Let’s build something brilliant for Wakefield.”
Yes, including the big pink sofa, more on that in a moment.
What Wakefield BID Needed:
-
A warm, welcoming hub for the business community
-
Clever zones for collaboration, meetings and quiet working
-
A look and feel that reflects Wakefield’s energy and ambition
-
A future‑proof, flexible office that supports real people doing real work
Basically: a space that feels like Wakefield, bold, friendly and full of momentum.
Our Approach:
We worked closely with the BID team to understand how they work, who they welcome and what the space needed to achieve. Then we designed it to support connection, creativity and community – because great places don’t happen by accident.
Priorities included:
-
Flexible layouts for everything from brainstorming to business meetings
-
Smart furniture choices to maximise comfort and flow
-
Brand‑aligned finishes that subtly (and tastefully) nod to the BID’s identity
-
A welcoming front‑of‑house – because first impressions matter
Plus, room for a standout feature that would become the unofficial star of the show.
Why the Pink Sofa?
We know what you’re thinking: “Really… pink?” Yes. Really.
Pink isn’t just a colour, it’s a mood. In colour psychology, pink is associated with creativity, warmth and optimism… all things Wakefield BID brings to the city.
And honestly? It just makes people smile. When you’re building a space that’s meant to welcome and inspire, that matters.
Bold? Absolutely. Unexpected? Maybe. Forgettable? Not a chance.
A Space Made for People
Above all, this office had to feel good. Somewhere members want to pop in, collaborate, plan big things and maybe even stay for another cup of tea.
There’s space to talk, space to focus, space to meet – and importantly, space to breathe.
A practical workplace? Yes.
A warm community hub? Also yes.
A place you’ll want to Instagram? Definitely.
Opening the Doors
The space launched in style, with breakfast, networking, ribbon‑cutting vibes courtesy of the Mayor, and three separate events throughout the day so everyone could get a peek.
Bonus feature: a bookable meeting room for BID members – because supporting local business shouldn’t stop at the front door.
Thomas Wales, Chief Executive of Wakefield BID, summed it up perfectly:
“This office is a place where our members can come together to help shape the future of Wakefield city centre.”
Exactly what we were aiming for.
The Result
Wakefield BID now have:
-
A collaborative, flexible and future‑ready workspace
-
A welcoming HQ for the city centre community
-
A striking design that reflects their ambition and energy
-
A pink sofa that has entered local legend status
We’d call that a win.
